Devastation

Buildings lay in crumbles, a man in tatters curls up in a ball on a nearby park bench, the addict closes his eyes for the last time with the needle dangling from his arm. Children fall to sleep with hungry bellies. Fathers cry because they are not able to provide. The deaths of the innocent scream out from lofty heights, mothers look to the streets for solace.

A plane, a truck, a gun. Oppression, depression, darkness, no hope. Searching, searching for the answer; peace a foreign word. Turmoil boils. Hatred rains down in cascading lead drops. Life extinguished.

Love unrecognizable, biting, tearing, gnashing teeth. A mouse in a maze; dead ends. Crashing into walls broken, bleeding.

Crying out for help; unable to move. Wounds unbound, rocks scrape pulverized skin. No one to help. Eyes close.

A gentle hand, a cool breeze. A glimmer of hope.

Consciousness returns, tears flow freely.

Tell me stranger, why?

"Not because of anything you have done, but what I have done for you. You are so precious, so valuable to Me. How can you not see? You search and search yet come up empty. Everything you have tried has left you broken and devastated. I will never leave you broken. I will never quench the smoking flax, nor will I crush the broken reed. Come to me. Accept what I have done. Know the life that I have provided for you. Leave the brokenness behind, walk into the new life that My death has paid for. You are not too bad. You have not done too much. You are not a disappointment to Me. Cry out to me. Come to Me all you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls."Though the world may have abandoned you, I will be your friend, father mother, sister and brother. I love you. Jesus"
