A Letter To The President

First and foremost I want to thank you for taking on the responsibility of the office of the Presidency. You now stand at the helm of this great country, and I do not envy you in the challenges and decisions you, as President, are faced with each and every day. As a die hard southern conservative, I am thrilled to once again have a republican president. I believe you have what it takes to turn this country around, to make us great again. You, Mr. President, have the power within you to return our nation to the political powerhouse it used to be. In years past, other countries would look to the United States and dream of being like us. They wanted what we had. I believe you are able to take us farther, to make us greater. I believe in you, Mr. President.
You have taken some major hits in the weeks since your inauguration. Frustrations and disappointments are on the rise, and you may even be questioning, and doubting yourself. Stop it! You are the President of the United States. The people elected you. We chose YOU. We believe in your plan to bring jobs back to America. We believe in your plan to strengthen our military. We believe in your desire to strengthen our borders. We believe in the reform you have planned for our nation's healthcare system. Those reasons and more are why we elected you.
So, how do you get from square one to where you want to be, where you want this country to be? I am no great political strategist, I do not have a degree in Law, and I have never been elected for anything other than the president of a writing club, but I do know people. At the core, the American people want to feel safe, to be safe. They want the opportunity to succeed, they want our nation free of debt. They want a President they can trust. They want a President who is truly for the people of the United States. I believe you are the President who can accomplish this.
Mr. President, it is time to start over and re-evaluate. Whom do you have around you? Who truly supports you and your efforts? Who are those simply paying lip-service? Whom do you have in your corner Mr. President to shoot straight with you, tell you like it is even if it is unpleasant and will have your back when things go south? You are going to make some bad decisions. You are going to have plans and ideas fall flat. You know this. The right people, those who believe in what you are endeavoring to accomplish will be there to pick you up, help dust you off and stand with you. Do you have those people Mr. President, or are you surrounded by those who are going to distance themselves from you when the media, democrats, other republicans, and the American people are set against you?
I am sickened by all of the negative press you and your office are receiving. The changes you desire to make are good changes, but one vital element is missing. Trust. You, Mr. President, are a wild card. We want to trust you. We need to see something positive come from your office. Start small. As I write this letter to you, I am reminded of Dave Ramsey's book "Total Money Makeover." In his book, he details how to get out of debt by eliminating the smallest debts first. Mr. President, you are at the bottom. The biggest debts (military, jobs, healthcare, borders) are out of reach. What can you eliminate right now, today? What piece of legislation, what action can you take to build confidence, trust, within the American people's psyche? What can you do to build a foundation of solid, good decisions the people of America can rally behind and propel you forward?
In the 90's Sears and Roebuck launched an ad strategy, "The softer side of Sears." This ad strategy was a great success for Sears and Roebuck and had consumers flocking to their stores. You are a hard-hitting, in your face individual. It is time for the American people to see "the softer side of Trump." What are you passionate about Mr. President? What tugs at your heartstrings? What do you think about in those quiet moments before you put on your game face and meet the day? If you could change one thing, make one thing better, what would it be? Lay aside the big guns for a moment. They aren't going anywhere. Focus your attention. You are not defeated, only thwarted for a time.
You have four years Mr. President. 1,460 days to make a difference. Turn the negative press on its ear. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps, surround yourself with those who believe in you, who care about what you desire to do and face each sunrise knowing deep in your gut you have what it takes to make this country great again.
Sincerely yours,
Patricia Marin
